Junior Championships 2007
A big thank you must go lady captain Heddwyn Molloy of Aspley Guise and Woburn Sands for all her help with this event - her and her team of ladies were outstanding, checking the girls in, acting as ball spotters and manning the half way house. Thanks also to Heddwyn for providing homemade cakes and also for all the work done before the day.
Katie now goes through to the Midland Division Champion of Champions at Greetham Valley on 16th September.
BLCGA Junior Section – Match Report V's Norfolk

Following on from the junior teams success against Cambs & Hunts at Millbrook on 15th April the junior squad was in action at The Norfolk Golf and Country Club, Reymerston on 22nd April v Norfolk. Once again the weather was glorious with both the 1st and 2nd team in high spirit. Playing for the 1st team were Lizi Sweetnam (captain) LB, Katie Burman JOG, Megan Birdsey Grif, Nicola Dennison JOG, Georgia Testa Beds and Natalie Coles LB. Nicola was making her debut for the Bedfordshire team. Katie, Megan and Lizi won their matches very comfortably, Lizi winning 6 & 4. A tense finish was watched by everyone as Nicola and Georgia halved their matches. The final result was 4/2 to Bedfordshire. Another wonderful performance by the girls.
The 2nd team were also looking forward to their matches again a greensome event was played. Playing for the 2nd team were Molly Thorne Beds with Sophie Hillier JOG, Rebecca Shortall SB with Caroline Westgate B&C and Kimberley Jones LB with Amy Smith JOG. All the girls had good matches and all had smiles on their faces when finishing on the sixteenth hole. The result was a half. Again a fine achievement.
Many thanks to Gill Westgate for organising the 2nd team and to county president Cicely for her unstinting support of the junior section.
Tea was taken in the club house and it is fantastic to see all the girls chatting and having fun together.
There are several county junior events taking place over the next few months, the Junior Championship is on 1st July at Aspley Guise and Woburn Sands GC. The final matches of the season are on 29th September at Swaffham GC 48 junior girls from 4 counties will be taking part. We find out which county qualifies for the Midland Division Junior Matchplay Finals, more yellow shirts and supporters would be greatly appreciated. I can promise golf to a very high standard at all junior events.

BLCGA-Junior Section- Match Report V's Cambs & Hunts
On Sunday 15th April the County Junior 1st and 2nd teams were in action at the Millbrook GC against Cambs/Hunts.The weather for April was glorious and Millbrook was in very good condition.
Playing for the first team were Lizi Sweetnam (captain) LB, Katie Burman JOG, Megan Birdsey Grif, Rebecca Samuels LB, Natalie Coles LB, and Georgia Testa Beds making her debut in the 1st team. Katie had a very close match only losing on the 18th. Georgia steamed ahead to victory winning her match 5 & 4. The final result was 4/2 to the Bedfordshire girls. A very good result for the first match of the season.
The 2nd team played for the first time on the same day as the 1st team. The format was greensomes the idea is to give these girls experience of playing on different courses and in a match situation which will hopefully help them make the transition to the 1st junior team. Playing for the 2nd team were Molly Thorne (captain) Beds with Kimberley Jones LB, Amber Hunt Grif with Emily Midgley JOG and Melissa Manning SB with Rebecca Shortall SB. All the girls had good matches and finished after sixteen holes with the result being a win to Bedfordshire 2&1/2 to ½. Again an excellent result. Tea was taken after the match and a presentation of county junior colours followed. This was the first time that junior colours have been awarded. The girls are required to show commitment to the county junior team and also need to play in 3 competitive matches, not friendlies for the junior 1st team. It is not necessary to win the matches to receive county colours. County President Cicely presented junior colours to Lizi Sweetnam LB, Katie Burman JOG, Megan Birdsey Grif, Natalie Coles LB and Rebecca Samuels. We hope the junior will wear their badges with pride and honour. Many thanks go to Millbrook for hosting this event, to Gill Westgate for organising the 2nd team and to Cicely for acting as starter and
