Gill Smith, Past Captain's Captain
Membership of the B.L.C.G.A. Past Captains costs just £1 for any Past Captain of an affiliated Bedfordshire Club, payable to your club's County Delegate. There are matches throughout the year; particularly popular is our annual fixture against the Bedfordshire Men's Past Captains, which we won in 2007 and we have no intention of relinquishing the crown in 2008. Our main competition of the year is the Past Captain's Annual Meeting, which will be held at Beds & County on 22d September. Current holder is Pauline Bell from Leighton Buzzard, who scooped the double in 2007, winning the Carol Rose Trophy as well.
A note from Gill on behalf of the Bedfordshire Past
Captains:
Congratulations to all of the BLCGA team ( and their caddies!!) for their
performance at Newmarket during County Week.
They all fought long and hard, and achieved great success.

Match Report: Bedfordshire
Past Captains V's Hertfordshire Past Captains (11th June at The Hertfordshire)
12 ladies travelled to Broxbourne to
play at The Hertfordshire Golf Course. A superb golf course in a lovely
setting. An old house, in a parkland course. Some water to negotiate (pretty
water lilies on one lake), and very interesting golf holes to play. The food
was also nice, served by a very personable young man! Bedfordshire won the match
41/2 to 1 1/2.
Match Report: Bedfordshire Past Captains
V's Cambs & Hunts Past Captains
(29th May at Bourne)
Past Captain's Captain, Gill Smith had not
played at Bourne since just a few years after it had opened, and was looking
forward to getting re-acquainted. Her verdict: "What
an eye-opener it was!! Mature trees, tricky par 3's. a real challenge."
We were welcomed by Robin Singleton the Cambs/Hunts Captain, and enjoyed Bacon
Butties, and coffee on arrival - always a good start. 12 ladies played from
Bedfordshire, nominated by their home clubs. It was a very good match, started
in very warm weather, but unfortunately the weather deteriorated, and the back
nine holes were played in damp and dismal weather, getting worse by the minute.
6 fourballs went out to play and after 5 matches we were 2 1/2 2 1/2, everything
depending on the last match - (as so often seems to happen when we play Cambs/Hunts).
Unfortunately our pair lost on the 17th hole! The rain was lashing down as they
approached the 18th green, and those of us lucky enough to be in the clubhouse,
didn't know the state of the game. It was a great atmosphere as we watched their
approach shots, and then their putts - we did not know it was all over - it
could have been the Curtis Cup being played out there!!!!!!!!! When we had all
dried out (from the rain), a delicious meal of roast beef, and all the
trimmings, followed by a choice of dessert and coffee was enjoyed. A good time
was had by all, and we are looking forward to the return match next year.
Match Report: Bedfordshire Past Captains V's Northants Past Captains
(14th May at Mowsbury)
Past Captain's Captain, Gill Smith reported: "I hadn't
played Mowsbury for about 5 years, and I was most impressed by how it had
matured during those years, it was in excellent condition, and well worth a
visit! The food was also very good, and a convivial atmosphere was enjoyed
by all!!"
Bedfordshire won 5 matches to 2.
Match Report: Ladies Past Captains V's Mens Past Captains
(3rd April at Dunstable Downs)
A good time was had by all the
participants. Dunstable Downs course was in great condition, the only problem
as far as the Ladies were concerned was the fact that a lot of the “Yellow
Markers” were in front of the “Red Markers”!! A dastardly plan by the men to
try and get an advantage over us. Tony Widner, the men’s captain did offer us a
few extra shots to compensate for this fact, unfortunately not enough to allow
us to get the upper hand! A win for the bad guys by 6 ½ to 1 ½
The weather was very kind to us, and the food was excellent.
